Aramaic
This cultural change was slight in comparison with the flood of Greek customs and values.
Aramaic was the language spoken by Jesus and used for several centuries by the Palestinian Jews. Aramaic was primarily an oral and written medium, working knowledge of Greek was indispensable. Aramaic was the official language of the Persian Empire and had already replaced Hebrew as the language of the people. Public readings were usually accompanied by a translation.
